Change This One Thought and Lose Weight

Are You Sabotaging Yourself Without Even Knowing It?

How can your thoughts help you lose weight?

There are many reasons that prevent people from losing weight and achieving goals and they all boil down to thoughts that have become habitual. Your mind is incredibly powerful and learning to use it properly will only help you lose weight.

“Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Here are 3 steps to change your mind for weight loss:

1. Become Aware Of Your Thoughts

Our first step is to become actively aware of the thoughts that we have now. You’ve probably had the same thoughts for years without even realizing it.

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about losing 10, 20 or even 40 pounds? Or how about putting on 5, 10, or 20 pounds of muscle? Do you think, “I can’t do that”? Or, “that would be nice, but I don’t know how.” Are you already giving in to defeat before you even attempt to achieve your goals?

Becoming aware of the thoughts you have about your weight, your body, and yourself is crucial in changing your direction.

2. Replace Your Old Thoughts

Once we become aware of our thoughts, we have to give ourselves some new go-to thoughts to replace our negative ones; Ones that are better for us and that will drive us toward our goals as opposed to away from them.

For example, if you find yourself saying “I can’t” when it comes to anything that would get you to your goal, stop right then and replace it. Something like “how can I” will dramatically change your mentality and approach to a difficult situation. It may not feel natural now, but that is the first step to change.

3. Practice

Staying consistent with positive changes in the questions you ask yourself will add up. Repeatedly asking yourself “how can I?” will train your brain to come up with an answer as opposed to figuratively waving the white flag.

It doesn’t matter if you want six pack abs, gain 10 pounds of muscle or want to lose 10 pounds of fat, the same principle applies. Many of us throw in the towel right as we are turning the corner toward results.

So, the key is to be patient and persistent and remember that anything worth having is worth the time it takes to get it. We have to realize that the weight we want to lose didn’t come on overnight, so we can’t lose it all overnight.

Stay consistent and stay the course, and results will come.

Making this one simple shift in thinking will have a big impact on your results. Remember that it all starts with your thoughts. They determine your actions, and your actions determine who you are. Don’t underestimate the power of your thoughts when it comes to weight loss and fitness.
